One Thousand Fathoms Deep is a 24 page tabloid newspaper printed for the Tokyo Book Fair at 3331 Art Chiyoda in Tokyo (29 July-1 August). This publication is a preview for my photographic show at the G/P Gallery in Ebisu at the start of next year. One Thousand Fathoms Deep is no.8 in the ‘Lumen’ series, a publication of new graphics and photography published by the G/P Gallery Edited by Shigeo Goto; Gallery Director Sawako Fukai. Special thanks to Toru Yoshikawa for his help on One Thousand Fathoms Deep.

PAN EUROPEAN PRINT CAMPAIGN

after the successful launch campaign of last year tomato were again approached to create further visuals for the ford ka.
two more neo realistic scenes were created based on the idea of ’seek and you will find’.
more dramatic false perspectives using hand generated marks and abstracted forms within each setting allow odd references and multiple distorted vehicles to hide away for viewers to search out.

much fun was had in 3d with clive and james at tag for the andy and lesley at ogilvy, london.

There & Back. Again

Recently back from Seoul after making an exhibition with British artist Sir Peter Blake for the Bean Pole fashion label.
Paddy Mehan, curator, asked if I’d be interested in creating an installation with Peter around the idea of cycling. The three of us worked out a plan whereby I’d project film images onto Peter’s prints.
Together with Tota Hasegawa, we included infa red sensors to turn projectors on and off whenever a visitor walked nearby. So the exhibit changed and responded to interaction.
All the films run as continuous loops. I used repetition to convey the action of cycling. Watching the same film loop over and over forces you to see new things at every replay, it’s very theraputic drawing in the viewer meditatively.
That’s where the title for the show came from. The cyclical nature of the images and the outcome.

Collaboration with sir peter blake.
The exhibition was made for fashion brand “beanpole”.
10 individual prints are paired with film loops projected through miniature video units. Each is triggered by infra red sensors.
All the films run as continuous loops, the repetition becomes a metaphor on the action of cycling.
Watching the same film loop over and over forces the viewer to see new details during each replay.
The title for the show “there & back . again” is a play on the cyclical nature of the images and the outcome.
Each time a loop activates, singular musical chimes embedded into the films merge throughout the space. This creates an ever changing sound score triggered each time a loop is activated.

idea magazine no.337 & floating world book launch, tokyo

to coincide with the book launch of ‘the Floating World’ at the Aoyama Book Centre in Tokyo
(31st October) there will be 144 pages of the next issue of Idea (available now) that expands
on the themes of ‘the Floating World’ and looks at tomato, underworld and work with our extended
family of collaborators through it’s lens. in this issue of Idea I was assisted by Toru Yoshikawa and
the japanese typesetting was by Yoshihisa Shirai. At the Aoyama Book Centre I’ll be giving a talk
with Hideki Nakajima and Shigeo Goto (1pm-3pm, 31st October).
