tomato was founded in 1991 as a collective comprising artists, designers, musicians and writers. the group develops cross platform, multi-media projects; both commercial and research based.
tomato engage in publishing, exhibitions, live performances, public speaking and hosting workshops as well as working with clients in the areas of advertising, architecture, fashion, public installations, music, television, film and graphic design.

Underworld played the Oblivion Ball at the Makuhari Messe in Tokyo. As an alternative to showing videos in the lounge, we held live painting performances throughout the night. A wall 42 × 7 meters was set up and over the course of 16 hours, covered with work by tomato and friends. A live CD of the event has been released. Underworld’s “Book of Jam 3” has further images. Aspesi flagship store, via montenapoleon, milan 2006
The project was to design and build a flagship store. via montenapoleon is milan’s the prime shopping street.
The concept for the store was to create “a poetic market place” reflecting the sensibilities of the aspesi brand.
The 700 meter square space contains: reactive screen based music toys, an multi lingual animating shop sign, various screen based graphic animations and live action films. the shop dreams at night, its dreams take the form of two live action films: one a single shot of a landscape filmed at one frame a second over 24 hours. a sea scape shot in slow motion cycles through a 15 colour pallette over its 7 minute duration. animatronic polar bears, themed collections of toys, antique display cabinets, a gio ponti day bed, a jean prouve sun lounger, works of art by janis kounellis, a fountain. a bar and small restaurant will occupy an adjacent courtyard. comme des garcons sell a range of leather goods, shirts and perfumes within the space.
the project was made in collaboration with studio citterrio. window monitors were designed in collaboration with limiteazero.com.
The store was voted best store in the world 2007 by a panel of judges in wallpaper magazine.
